Administrative ping-pong

Longyan Elementary School (龍岩國小遺址) is located on a series of gently rolling hills on Qiongjiao Mountain in Dalin Township, Chiayi County. In 2007. It was closed due to a declining number of students.

The school building itself is still structurally well preserved. However, the interior has deteriorated significantly due to decay, and parts of it have been affected by vandalism.

The school follows a traditional design, with two or three building wings surrounding a large central courtyard.

The Longyan Community Development Association was reluctant to see their alma mater abandoned and has worked to transform the school into a tourist attraction that could stimulate rural tourism. However, due to government regulations and other factors, the development of the campus has faced many restrictions. As an example: The buildings belong to the county government, while the land is owned by the National Property Administration. When the Association applied, the site could only be used for educational purposes—nothing else. There was once an idea to move a day-care center for the elderly here, which would have been a good choice , as it would have improved the environment. But it was blocked by these restrictions. This was the science classroom—those messy things have been cleared away because people vandalized the place.

(like a prayer)

Yes, all correct. But the school is truly remote. I drove for a long time past old fields, and everywhere you can see the entrances to abandoned farmsteads.
